Designed to Respond

Designed to Respond
to Human Complexity

Because human lives are shaped by interconnected biological, psychological, relational, cultural, community, and environmental influences, meaningful care often requires more than a single pathway of response.

01

Human Complexity

We affirm the inherent dignity, worth, and complexity of every person. Attending to the whole person helps us remain responsive to the unique experiences, strengths, challenges, relationships, and circumstances that shape human life.

02

Synergistic Care

We value a synergistic approach that recognizes the complexity of human life and brings together multiple forms of knowledge, care, support, and engagement to create possibilities and outcomes greater than any single method, discipline, intervention, or pathway could achieve alone.

03

Biocultural Understanding

We utilize a biocultural framework to inform our understanding of human life as shaped by the dynamic interaction of biological, psychological, social, cultural, environmental, and spiritual factors. This lens helps us recognize the complexity of human experience and guides our use of counseling modalities in ways that are responsive to diverse human needs.

A counseling professional and young person sharing a supportive moment
What is Counseling?
Counseling is a collaborative process that supports individuals, families, and communities in navigating emotional, psychological, relational, and life-related challenges through structured and supportive care.
What is Therapy?

Therapy is a deeper clinical counseling process and practice.

It includes clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and the application of evidence-based interventions in the treatment of more serious, persistent, or disruptive mental health concerns.

These concerns may include persistent depressive symptoms, clinically significant anxiety or stress responses, trauma-related symptoms, mood disorders, prolonged grief, relational difficulties, or emotional and behavioral patterns that continue beyond what is typically expected and significantly interfere with daily functioning, relationships, work, school, or overall well-being over time.

Do I Need to Choose One or the Other?
No. Your counseling professional will help guide the process and determine an appropriate counseling approach based on your needs, goals, and overall concerns.
Is What I Share Confidential?
Counseling services are designed to support privacy and confidentiality in accordance with applicable ethical, legal, and professional standards, including important limitations related to safety and mandated reporting.
Can teens (ages 12+) receive counseling and therapy?
Yes. In Colorado, teens age 12 and older can receive outpatient counseling and therapy, and in many cases, they may consent to services on their own. This allows teens to seek support privately while the counseling provider helps ensure they understand the counseling process and determines whether services are appropriate for their needs. Parental involvement may be encouraged when helpful, but it is not always required. There are some exceptions, particularly in situations involving safety concerns or when a higher level of care may be needed, where additional support, parental involvement, or a referral may be necessary to help ensure they receive the appropriate care.
What can I expect in the counseling process?
A huge part of the counseling and therapy process is working together to understand what you need and what will be most helpful to you. In the early stage of care, your counseling professional will complete an assessment, help you clarify your goals, and determine the most appropriate approach to support you. From there, a clear direction is established before moving into deeper work and action towards your desired change you’re seeking.
